FIRST GRADE GOALS

• By the end of first grade the students will have been exposed to a variety of literature which they will develop comprehension skills and different strategies along with phonics and spelling skills to become fluent readers and proficient in Language Arts-reading on level or above.
• Students will write with proficient grammar when developing writing skills with complete sentences, capitalization and punctuation.
• Students will master math concepts through the use of manipulatives and mental math in the "Everyday Math" experience.
• Students will show an understanding of the diverse cultures and customs in our "neighborhoods and communities".
• Students will be exposed to science involving nature as well as the scientific method in all science experiments and class activities.
